Crumbling roadways are a huge problem in South Carolina. Many drivers have had their cars damaged by large potholes and deteriorating asphalt, leaving them with significant repair costs. Since it is the responsibility of the state to keep South Carolina roadways in good repair, it is unfair for drivers to have to shoulder the expensive financial burden of these costs.<\/p>\n

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has a fund to compensate drivers for damages resulting from poor roadway conditions, but few people know about it. The “Payment for Potholes” Program<\/p>\n

If you have had damage to your car and believe that poorly maintained roads were the cause, you can file a claim to have your repair costs reimbursed by the state thanks to the South Carolina Association for Justice’s (SCAJ) Pro-Bono “Payment for Potholes” Program. Residents with damaged vehicles will be connected with SCAJ attorneys who can offer guidance through the SCDOT damage claims process.<\/p>\n

According to the SCAJ President, “The State of South Carolina has neglected its responsibility to properly repair our roadways, invest in our transportation infrastructure, and keep our drivers safe. In the long term, we hope lawmakers can set aside their political differences to pass a bill with a stable source of funding that will fix our roads once and for all. Until that happens, the ‘Payment for Potholes’ web portal will temporarily ease the burden on drivers at no cost to them.”<\/p>\n
