{"id":705,"date":"2010-04-29T17:05:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-29T17:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/2010\/04\/29\/organic-chocolate-could-be-tainted-with-salmonel\/"},"modified":"2024-05-08T00:04:24","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T04:04:24","slug":"organic-chocolate-could-be-tainted-with-salmonela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/blog\/organic-chocolate-could-be-tainted-with-salmonela\/","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate Tainted with Salmonella"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p> A new recall shows not even organic sweets are safe from potential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/blog\/category\/food-poisoning\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"food poisoning\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food poisoning.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hershey Co.-owned Dagoba Organic Chocolate is recalling their new moon  rich dark chocolate with 74% cacao sold in .32 ounce squares because it  could be contaminated with Salmonella.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two cases of the potentially tainted sweets were sold online and  in stores nationwide after October 27, according to the Food and Drug  Administration. Of the 33 cases being pulled, all but 10 have been removed  from the market. The cases contained 12 boxes with 36 squares in each.<\/p>\n<p> It is unknown where the chocolate was shipped or sold. The FDA has also  not reported where the testing was performed and if other Dagoba chocolate  was tested for Salmonella, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/business\/2010\/11\/organic_chocolate_sold_by_dago.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Organic chocolate sold by Dagoba in Ashland recalled over salmonella fears | OregonLive.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news reports<\/a> . <\/p>\n<p>As an attorney, I&#8217;m glad to hear that no reports of illness from the  chocolate have yet to be reported. I advise anyone who has purchased or  received the chocolate throw it out or return it immediately. A salmonella  infection is potentially life-threatening and symptoms include vomiting,  diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 7-8 hours after infection. Symptoms  may be more severe in young and elderly people, and those with weakened  immune systems.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hershey Co.-owned Dagoba Organic Chocolate
