{"id":819,"date":"2011-08-09T09:05:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-09T09:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/2011\/08\/09\/scdot-warns-drivers-of-dangerous-conditions\/"},"modified":"2024-05-08T00:04:53","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T04:04:53","slug":"scdot-warns-drivers-of-dangerous-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/blog\/scdot-warns-drivers-of-dangerous-conditions\/","title":{"rendered":"SCDOT Warns Drivers of Conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South Carolina Department of Transportation is urging drivers to stay off the roads during the snow storm because they are simply too dangerous to drive on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With this type of weather, there&#8217;s no reason to take a chance on the roadways,&#8221; said interim Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott to news reports.<\/p>\n<p>The heavy snowfall Monday morning made some roads impassable, even those in downtown Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation has had to set up barriers to block drivers from traveling down some downtown streets that are too dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we have roads that are passable, we are going to open them,&#8221; said Scott to news reports. &#8220;If we have roads that are getting repeated forms of skidding\u00a0or people can&#8217;t pass and they&#8217;re piling up,\u00a0we are going to shut the roads down just or the safety of the citizens.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Conditions are expected to stay poor until mid-week. &#8220;The conditions are bad, but they&#8217;re only going to deteriorate from here,&#8221; he said to news reports.<\/p>\n<p>As a  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sinklaw.com\/\">North Charleston car accident attorney,<\/a> , I urge South Carolina drivers to pay attention to the Department of Transportation warnings and to avoid the roadways as much as possible.
