News sources<\/a> reported that the South Carolina Highway Patrol plans on increasing their numbers and visibility over the holiday weekend in order to dissuade drivers from driving under the influence and ensure safety.<\/p>\n

SCHP Cpl. Bob Beres said, “Everyone is going to be working, from the newest trooper to the colonel of the highway patrol.” He says that the agency’s main goal is to ensure that this weekend isn’t your last. “It’s the end  of the summer, the end of the 100 deadly days, but we don’t want this weekend to be the last weekend of your life.”<\/p>\n

The American Automotive Association (AAA) estimates that approximately 424,000 drivers will saturate South Carolina’s roads over the Labor Day weekend. Cpl. Beres stated that drivers should expect I-26 and I-95 to have a significant amount of congestion and there will be delays on major highways coming into the Lowcountry.<\/p>\n

According to Cpl. Beres, around 15,000 people were arrested and charged with driving under the influence in South Carolina last year during the holiday weekend. He suggests that all drivers wear their seatbelts, slow their speed and abstain from drinking if they are going to drive.<\/p>\n
