Mopeds have gained popularity throughout South Carolina, especially in the Grand Strand. They offer a fun alternative to traditional motor vehicles and are the preferred transportation choice for motorists looking to save money on gas. Unfortunately, opting for a moped does have its downside. These small, slower scooters are incredibly dangerous, and they offer little protection to riders. According to South Carolina authorities and safety officials, moped accidents are on the rise<\/a> this year. <\/p>\n

Crash reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol show that there were more than twice the number of moped deaths during the first half of 2014 than in 2013<\/strong> (18 in the first six months of 2014, compared to 7 in the first six months of 2013).While these fatal accidents occur throughout the state, the highest concentration has been in the Grand Strand, including Myrtle Beach. Officials also state that while there has been a fair share of moped accidents<\/a> on smaller roads, including Ocean Boulevard, many moped crashes take place on multilane highways, such as 501 and 17. <\/p>\n
