South Carolina residents have been recently debating whether to install red light cameras to catch drivers speeding through street lights. There has been mixed results of the safety of these lights and whether or not they prevent car accidents.<\/p>\n

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released a survey on the support of red light cameras. The survey found two-thirds of drivers in 14 major cities who have red-light cameras support their use, according to news reports<\/a> .<\/p>\n

This study is a follow up to the recent finding that these cameras have reduced fatal red-light-running crashes by 24 percent in the same cities.<\/p>\n

Nine out of 10 drivers in the study believe it is unacceptable to run a red light, and eight out of 10 say it’s a threat to personal safety.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
